Compare like for like
Two quotes are only comparable if they cover the same work. Check measurements, materials, labour, access, waste removal and VAT.
Ask each trade to confirm what is excluded. Exclusions are often where surprise costs appear.
Look at value and clarity
A clear quote with realistic timings can be better value than a cheaper vague one. You should understand what you are paying for before work starts.
Watch for pressure
Avoid pressure to decide immediately, cash-only demands or vague promises that are not written into the quote.
