Questions to ask before hiring a roofer
What to ask about roof repairs, new roofs, flat roofs, access, warranties, insurance and written scopes.
Start with access and diagnosis
Ask how the roofer will inspect the problem safely, whether scaffolding or a tower is needed, and whether the quote includes diagnosis as well as repair.
For leaks, explain when water appears, where it enters and whether it happens only during heavy rain or wind-driven rain.
Check what is included
A roofing quote should explain materials, labour, waste removal, access equipment, making-good and any warranty or guarantee.
For flat roofs, ask which system is being quoted, such as felt, EPDM or GRP, and what preparation is included.
Ask about proof and protection
Ask for insurance details, similar work examples and whether photos will be provided before and after the job.
