Lead & Trade guide
What details to include when posting a job
The details that help trades decide whether to quote and produce a more accurate price.
Edited by Lead & Trade using general UK hiring, quoting and platform privacy guidance. This is practical guidance, not legal advice or a guarantee of workmanship.
Describe the problem and the outcome
Explain what is wrong now and what you want the finished result to be. Include materials, measurements and anything that may affect access.
Add location, budget and timescale
A postcode, rough budget and timescale help trades decide whether the job is relevant. Choose 'Not sure' if you genuinely do not know the budget yet.
Do not add private details to the description
Keep phone numbers, emails and full addresses out of the public job description. Lead & Trade collects contact details separately and never shows full contact details in the public job preview.
Practical checklist
- Write down the job scope, access notes, timing and budget range before asking for quotes.
- Keep your messages, photos, quote changes and payment notes in one place.
- Ask for written details where the work involves safety, certification, specialist materials or staged payments.
- Use Lead & Trade privacy-safe job posting so your full contact details are not public.
